A few days after the Super Bowl, the worst time of the year begins. The days of October when we, as sports fans, could follow all the important sports are long gone. For the next few weeks, ESPN won't devour my life and it sucks.

I don't care about college basketball unless it's March Madness. And the NBA and NHL playoffs are so long that I won't pay attention until April.
Fortunately for baseball fans, our feeling of sporting emptiness will soon end when pitchers and catchers show up for spring training.
I have at least a month until opening day, but it's my light at the end of the tunnel, dammit, and I'm losing my eyesight.
To steer my solution to baseball information, we will begin posting popular baseball customs and baseball traditions that make us feel warm and fuzzy inside.
First the baseball traditions theme song: Take Me Out To the Ball Game
Harry Caray The Man, No Myth, Just Legend
Of course, you can't mention this famous song without mentioning the Hall of Fame sports mug Harry Caray. For those who don't know, it took the hell to make singing the song with the fans a tradition in the 7th inning.
Apparently Caray was so excited to sing the song that his radio producer at the time turned on Caray's microphone without his knowledge and the most popular tradition of the fans was born. (Early 1970s)
During his tenure with 4 Major League Baseball franchises (White Sox, Cubs, Cardinals and Athletics), Harry Caray made the song famous by adding the home team name for "home team" to the lyrics of the song , a ritual practiced by many baseball fans across the country.
Coincidentally, the year the song was written (1908) is the last year the Cubs won the World Series.
In all honesty, I'm amazed that Harry came back from the grave to strangle some of the people who massacred the classic song.
I'm not blaming you for not listening. It was difficult for me to find the "good videos" of people sucking the famous song.
Mike Ditka To be honest, Ditka to me like Chuck Norris to people who don't know who Mike Ditka is. Because he's amazing in everything he does, this feat is pure magic.
To others? Not so much…
Other fun versions of Take me to the ball game….
Mr.T Rendention: I have no words ... just amazing and everything I imagined.
Ozzy Ozbourne - A simple song like this is too much for Ozzy and the drugs.
Jeff Gordon Doomed when Wrigley said "stadium" instead of Field, but he didn't even have the guts to sing the song. He deserves the boo.
Quick Facts:
At Dodger Stadium, the song's chorus is played and sung twice, but the second time it's half a notch higher.
During the Colorado Rockies' 22-inning game against the San Diego Padres on April 17, 2008, the song was played in the 14th inning distance and again in PETCO Park's unprecedented inning distance.
On January 1, 2009, the NHL hosted the Winter Classic outdoor game at Wrigley Field, which included a version of Take Me Out to the Ball Game performed by Ryne Sandberg, Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita and Denis Savard in the middle of the third period became . they were modified in relation to ice hockey instead of baseball. ("Root Root Root for the Blackhawks")
Take Me Out to the Ball Game Story
Originally written in 1908 by Jack Norworth. Another version was also written in 1927 by Norworth. The "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" as we know it today was actually the refrain of the original songs. The following are the 1908 and 1927 versions side by side for comparison
1908 version
- Katie Casey was baseball mad,
- Had the fever and had it bad.
- Just to root for the home town crew,
- Ev’ry sou1
- Katie blew.
- On a Saturday her young beau
- Called to see if she’d like to go
- To see a show, but Miss Kate said “No,
- I’ll tell you what you can do:”
1927 Version
- Nelly Kelly loved baseball games,
- Knew the players, knew all their names.
- You could see her there ev’ry day,
- Shout “Hurray”
- When they’d play.
- Her boyfriend by the name of Joe
- Said, “To Coney Isle, dear, let’s go”,
- Then Nelly started to fret and pout,
- And to him, I heard her shout:
[Chorus]Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd;
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,
I don’t care if I never get back.
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don’t win, it’s a shame.
For it’s one, two, three strikes, you’re out,
At the old ball game.
Katie Casey saw all the games,
Knew the players by their first names.
Told the umpire he was wrong,
All along,
Good and strong.
When the score was just two to two,
Katie Casey knew what to do,
Just to cheer up the boys she knew,
She made the gang sing this song:Nelly Kelly was sure some fan,
She would root just like any man,
Told the umpire he was wrong,
All along,
Good and strong.
When the score was just two to two,
Nelly Kelly knew what to do,
Just to cheer up the boys she knew,
She made the gang sing this song:
[repeat Chorus]
Just amazing, isn't it? I get goose bumps just hearing it!
As much as he hates everything with Yankee, Bernie Williams has a beautiful guitar rendering of the song. Skip the first 17 seconds of the Yankee PR junk to get to the song, but once it starts, close your eyes and listen.
Plus, you don't want pictures of Bernie and the old Yankee Stadium to ruin a perfect song. (baseball traditions)
